Farmville Walkthrough

Ultimate Farmville GuideSo you bought the farm.  Now what?  These pointers will help you avoid some of the major mistakes that people make upon starting the game and progressing through the first 3 or 4 levels.  It will also let you in on some of the things you should be doing if you want to succeed.  Develop good habits in your farming and leveling will be much easier!

What To Do

Get all the neighbors you can.  Visit them daily - There is no downside to this.  There really isn’t.  You make friends, earn experience and coins and get people to fertilize your field.  You also gain people to add to Live Feed, giving you a better chance of lost animals, mystery eggs, flower bunches, bonuses from awards and more.

Try the haybale method to gain xp quickly - Buying haybales for your farm is one of the fastest and cheapest sources of xp to be had.  When you finally have enough cash that you can start thinking about this, try adding a row or two of haybales and watch your xp meter shoot through the roof!

Lay your farm out in an orderly fashion - All those random squares may look fun now, but they’ll be a pain to harvest.  They’ll be an even bigger pain when you’re trying to harvest with a Harvester.  Make relatively regular fields (squares and rectangles).

Plan your harvests - Know when you’ll be back to check on your crops and harvest them.  Don’t plant anything that you can’t harvest.  Don’t waste your money.  Use a chart to select the best possible harvest (see our section on Crops)

What Not to Do

Don’t spend your money on decorations - This is not the time.  In the early levels, you need to save every penny right now for planting and harvesting.  A couple harvests from now you can start thinking about that barn or covered wagon that you’ve got your eye on.

Don’t forget a crop and let it rot -When you’ve only got 200 coins to work with, one rotted crop can set you back a long ways.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, know your farming schedule.

Don’t plow a huge section of land. . .only to run out of coins to buy seed with - Always leave enough money to seed.  Don’t expand too fast.  If at all possible, leave enough money in the bank to reseed your entire field should your crop fail.  You never know when you might be called away and not be able to harvest in time.  Plan ahead.

As you harvest and plant and learn your own personal technique for developing your farm, you’ll become more and more comfortable in making major decisions about how to run it.  Take all the advice you can get but remember to add the proverbial grain of salt.  In the end, this game is meant to be fun and no one else can tell you how to do that.
